Hair, Eyes, Mouth: The handmade, synthetic curly black wig has hair bows made from the peach dress fabric. The facial features are painted.
Clothes: The peach sheer dress has an attached peach satin slip and a peach waist sash. Wears white lace-trimmed ankle socks, and black felt Mary-Jane-style shoes; the white cloth body gives the appearance of drawn-on underwear.
Other: Marla has a wooden black doll, which is not shown. Portrait Dollings were entirely handmade and painted by the artist. They were dressed in vintage clothing from the 1940s and 1950s selected from the artist’s collection. Marla is the 70th one-of-a-kind doll of this type created by the artist. At doll #104, Morrow discontinued making this type of doll.
