Name:  17th-Century-Costumed Young Queen Charlotte, Lady in Red

Made by and When: Goldie Wilson, 2024

Material: Porcelain head, breastplate, arms, full legs; paint, synthetic hair fibers, glue, glass eyes, silk, and leather combined create a completely handmade doll from head to toe.

Marks: (Handwritten on the right buttocks) 17 Century / Young Queen Charlotte / Costume / Lady in Red / Goldie Wilson / 2024; also has a certificate of authenticity that includes a biography of Queen Charlotte (Sophia Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz) with the doll’s description, the artist’s signature, and indicates this doll is the 1st doll in an ultra-limited edition of only five dolls.

Height: 18-1/2 inches (not including the top of the hair)

Hair, Eyes, Mouth: The handmade black wig is accented with a bouquet of flowers in the back. The inset eyes are brown glass with applied upper eyelashes and painted lower eyelashes. The lips of the closed mouth are claret in color.

Clothes: Young Queen Charlotte is elaborately dressed in a 17th-Century-style, one-of-a-kind (OOAK) red embroidered silk overcoat with silver lace trim and decorated with metallic ribbon bows. The sleeves are decorated with tiers of lace with silk trim and metallic bows. A removable lace collar accents the neck. To make the dress stand out, it has bustles on the sides and is not flat at the back.  Underneath the coat is a batiste white slip with a red silk front. The handmade, real-leather shoes are gold, and the painted-on stockings are China-painted with flowers outlined in 14kt gold. Queen Charlotte wears split drawers and diamond-encrusted earrings.

Other: 17th-Century-Costumed Young Queen Charlotte, Lady in Red is a character doll that honors Queen Charlotte (Sophia Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz). Created in an ultra-limited edition of only five dolls, four of which to be presented at the United Federation of Doll Clubs’ 75th Annual Convention in Kansas City, Missouri (July 23-27, 2024), this one-of-a-kind doll is #1 of 5. The full-page typewritten certificate of authenticity includes Queen Charlotte’s biography, the artist’s inspiration for the costume, the doll’s description, the artist’s signature, and this doll’s edition number.
