Name: 1960s Head-Turning Bent-Knee Walker
Made by and When: Unknown maker, ca. 1960s
Material: Vinyl head, rigid vinyl body with jointed knees, synthetic hair
Marks: (Head) 550
Height: 28 inches
Hair, Eyes, Mouth: Rooted now-oxidized red bubble cut hairstyle, brown sleep eyes with attached upper eyelashes and painted lower eyelashes, closed mouth with a coral lip color
Clothes: Redressed in a period-appropriate ocean blue shantung silk dress with a burgundy waist sash, off-white tights, black patent-leather Mary-Jane-style shoes, a burgundy felt hat with a light blue-ribbon hat band, and handmade rose-colored bead earrings
Other: This slender-bodied doll has flat feet. Its head sculpt resembles Deluxe Reading’s 30-inch Darling Debbie and other “grocery store dolls” of the late 1950s to 1960s. Its original brown hair has now oxidized to red. The original amber-colored eyes were darkened by the curator. When the doll’s bent-knee-style legs are moved in a walking motion, the head turns from side to side.
