Made by and When: Pamela Erff/Gloria Vanderbilt for MasterPiece Dolls, 2003

Material:  Vinyl head, breastplate, lower arms, hands, and legs; cloth upper arms, legs, and body; acrylic eyes, paint, synthetic hair fibers

Height:  32 inches

Marks:  (On the back of the breastplate) Gloria Vanderbilt (signature) / ©2003 / #045/300

Hair, Eyes, Mouth:  Dark brown curly wig originally styled in two curly side ponytails adorned with fabric that matches the tunic, brown stationary eyes with applied upper eyelashes and painted lower eyelashes, closed mouth with burgundy lip color

Clothing:  Blue/mauve/gray/gold abstract colored tunic, light blue pants, leather string necklace with three faux acorns attached, bare feet

Other:  Sculpted by Pamela Erff in a limited edition of 300 in collaboration with Gloria Vanderbilt and sold through MasterPiece Dolls on the Home Shopping Network, has a hangtag, a promotional photograph, and a certificate of authenticity that includes a short bio of Ms. Vanderbilt, describing her love for dolls as follows.

…Dolls have always fascinated this remarkable woman as she believes that we project onto them our hopes and dreams. In a doll we have proof of an ideal made tangible. To possess a doll reaffirms our own feelings of self-esteem. We may add to our collection of dolls as our feelings about beauty and style develop, but the dolls we already have remain constant and unchanging, forever enchanting…

A poem card accompanied Joyous: There is a bird outside my window singing as I wake, and no matter what the day brings, little difference can it make for somewhere, someplace, a bird is singing with it joy and beauty bringing.
